Helderberg Rugby Club Background & History
The Helderberg Rugby Football Club (RFC) inherited history goes back to 1904 when the Somerset Rugby Club was founded, as described in the rugby club history section.
As from 2009, the Stellenbosch Rugby Academy plays their rugby at the Helderberg Rugby Football Club. The Stellenbosch Rugby Academy specializes in the practical fulltime development of successful rugby players, sports coaches, fitness instructors and sports managers. The rugby academy also provides comfortable student accommodation on the campus for qualified participants. Players also participate in the Stellenbosch student activities. The career directed education, combined with rugby, makes this an incredible and unique experience.
Infrastructure, Teams & Schools
The rugby club has a very good infrastructure and we are fortunate enough to have a passionate fulltime manager. The club has two rugby fields with good quality floodlights, adequate changing-rooms and parking, private rugby suite on the main stand, a fully licensed clubhouse, security and function rooms (function areas are available for rent to the public).
Helderberg Rugby Club currently fields 5 senior teams and 3 junior teams.
The three biggest Secondary Schools in the Strand and Somerset West are also involved at the Helderberg Rugby Club.
